To mark this anniversary event a varied programme awaits visitors, with more than 150 hours of live performances at six different venues, with three large stages. Admission is free. The celebrations will be taking place on six different stages at the Ur-Krostitzer Biergarten at the market, in the Freiberger Lounge on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz, in the Radeberger Sommergarten on Augustusplatz, with Toggo Tour in front of the Gewandhaus concert hall, with Belantis on Tour in front of the Paulinum and at St. Nicholas's churchyard, which will be delighting fans of Irish folk music and Guinness.
Volker Bremer, Managing Director of Leipzig Tourismus und Marketing GmbH: “With a mix of long-established events and plenty of new ideas, this year's city festival will pay homage to our cheerful city of Leipzig. We would like to thank the coordinator Bernd Hochmuth and his team for their commitment to financing and implementing the 25th Leipzig City Festival.
Tribute Night
Some popular city festival traditions will be reprised once more this year. On 4 June 2016, for example, the best tribute bands in Europe will be appearing at Tribute Night. Visitors can look forward to music by Take That and the invincible forces of Lady Gaga and her special guests Katy Perry and Adele.
Augustusplatz becomes a beer garden
This year, the Radeberger Sommergarten will be occupying the biggest spot at the festival, at Augustusplatz, right next to the big wheel. Among other acts in the cosy beer garden in front of the opera house, the Johann Sebastian Bach Music School's Youth Symphony Orchestra will be putting on a Film Classics Night, the children's musical “Kalif Storch” will be delighting its audience and the Leipzig Opera House Musical Comedy Theatre will be creating a sizzling musical spectacle on the huge stage with “Love, Money and Jealousy”.
Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz becomes an open-air venue for rock music fans
The Freiberger Lounge can be found at a new spot on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz, the city of Leipzig's new open-air venue. This is where a dream will come true for fans of handcrafted rock music. It will all kick off on Friday night with the two chatterboxes Böttcher & Fischer, followed by Six and then Four Roses, one of Leipzig's favourite rock bands. On Saturday, Cora's two lovely ladies will be taking the audience on a trip to Amsterdam.
