After a season's break, it will now be open for splashing and swimming at the same time as the "Robbe" open-air swimming pool at Schwimmhalle Nord which, as usual, will not open its doors until 1 June. The Ökobad Lindenthal was given a general overhaul over the last few months, costing roughly 350,000 euros. There are new walkways, the pond has been cleaned out and some 6,000 new plants have been planted. A children's playground has been built with a wooden ship to play on, and in the non-swimmers' area there is a new stream to play and make mud cakes in. To mark the opening on 1 June there will be a lively programme of children's events, with free admission for all visitors aged 16 or less.
Schreberbad celebrates its 150th anniversary
The other open-air pools are equally family-friendly: in the Schreberbad, children can have fun on not one, but two new playgrounds. At Sommerbad Kleinzschocher, the children's bathing area has been covered by a sunshade to give children more protection from the sun. The highlight of this season will be the 150th anniversary of the Schreberbad on 8 July, with a big festival. "The whole day will be taken up with a busy programme of events, and in line with the anniversary, all visitors will pay 150 cents to get in", said Joachim Hellwig, managing director of Sportbäder Leipzig GmbH.
The admission prices and opening times will remain unchanged this year. Only the Ökobad will now be staying open for longer, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (was 12 noon to 7 p.m.).
Indoor pools go on a summer break at the start of the school holidays
When the school holidays start, the indoor swimming pools will be taking their summer break as planned, though Schwimmhalle Nord will remain open during that period. Major construction work is due to be carried out at the Grünauer Welle (renovation of hot water supply and partial reconstruction of the sanitary facilities) and in Schwimmhalle Nordost.
