From an app for guided audio walks on the Promenadenring to the film "Zu Fuß durch Tokio-Shibuya" at the Leipziger Westen community centre and custom printed pedestrian city maps: for seven days the focus is on pedestrians.
The European Commission's week-long campaign aims to promote sustainable mobility among citizens in the city and highlight innovative transport solutions. Leipzig's Walking Commissioner, Friedemann Goerl said: "Walking is the basis of any mobility in our city because pedestrians get things moving. Furthermore, it makes for vibrant city centres, promotes good health and is good for the environment and the local economy. This year's European Mobility Week aims to give wider publicity to this often underrated mode of transport, as mobility has many exciting aspects. Together with everyone in Leipzig, we want to show this and breathe life into the streets."
In addition to walking, these exciting aspects also feature in the week's official programme: there are total of 33 events.
