The focal points of this year's anti-racism weeks are dealing with the experience of racism, involvement in countering racism, information about the situation of refugees in their home countries and their flight to Europe, refugees in Leipzig past and present, and religious diversity in Leipzig.
Denying any scope to racism and hate
In his foreword to the programme its patron Burkhard Jung, Mayor of Leipzig, emphasises: "The 'International Weeks against Racism' call on us all to treat our still unknown neighbours with dignity and respect. And we must also deal directly with the racism which is increasingly raising its voice in our society. Our position needs to be very clear in this respect: we will listen to arguments, we take people's fears seriously, but there is no place here for racism and hate. There is no justification for attacking people and setting fire to the places where they live".
A total of 55 associations and initiatives, young people's and cultural institutions as well as further organisations and members of various parties are among the organisers of the anti-racism weeks.
