At Leipzig/Halle Airport, the number of passengers increased by 11.5% year-on-year to 279,995 in August. With 6,993 aircraft movements, the volume of traffic grew by 12.3 per cent. In July, the statistics already showed an increase of 14.7 percent over the previous year, with 302,557 passengers. Freight volume at Germany's second-largest airfreight hub from January to August totalled around 806,379 tons, an increase of 10.3 percent year-on-year.
Dresden Airport recorded 161,934 passengers in August, an increase of 10.2 percent. The positive development of June (+5.7 percent) and July (+7.3 percent) thus continued. The number of aircraft movements also increased repeatedly: In August, 3,020 take-offs and landings were registered - an increase of 10.6 per cent over the previous year.
Growth at both airports was driven by the positive development in tourism traffic. Almost all the tourist destinations served recorded increased demand. Growth was particularly strong in Egypt, Turkey and Greece.
It can be assumed that the positive trend of the previous months will continue and that growth at the Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports will clearly exceed the average for German commercial airports. According to the airport association, this was 2.9% for passenger traffic and -1.6% for freight traffic in July. (The ADV statistics for August were not available at the date of publication of this press release.)
